Tivoli – 16th century Villa of Cardinal D’Este 4 hrs.

The Villa of Cardinal D’Este is famous for its unique parkland, which is terraced on the slope of the Tiburtino Mountains and famous for its many magnificent fountains. The extraordinary personality of Cardinal D’Este himself deserves special attention.

Few people could boast of being the grandson of the Pope himself! The residence of the cardinal, who survived two “conclaves” but never achieved the coveted office of pope, is a vivid testament to both the ambition and the refined taste of Hippolytus II D’Estaix, who was accustomed to the luxuries of the French court.

After visiting the villa, you will also see the waterfalls on the river Agnene, and will be able to better understand and appreciate the Cardinal’s intention to take advantage of what Mother Nature herself had given.

All days open except Monday, 25 December, 1 May
