Not far from Rome, on the tops of volcanic hills, are picturesque towns, formerly impregnable fortresses with castles. The castles have long since collapsed, but the name remains – “Roman Castles”.
In one of these towns, Castel Gandolfo, the Pope’s summer residence was established in the 17th century and still serves its purpose today. The Pope’s residence is located on the high shore of Lake Albano and the view is breathtaking.
A short drive away is another lake, Lake Nemi. On the shores of Lake Nemi is the ship museum (1 hour to visit the ship museum; closed on Mondays), created in Mussolini’s time after ships from the time of Emperor Caligula were recovered from the bottom of the lake.
These lakes are both located in the craters of extinct volcanoes. The soil in these places is rich in minerals and unusually fertile.
After climbing the steep shore of Lake Nemi, you will find yourself in the town of the same name, where in every bar and restaurant you will be offered incredibly fragrant and tasty forest berries: raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and blueberries.
Roman Castles is a famous wine producing area.
The wines of “Castelli Romani”, which means Roman Castles, are the pride of the whole Lazio region.
Another gastronomic delicacy is the local burger “porchetta”.
On our tour you will be able to witness the anomalous processes of nature. This place is easy to find, as there is a huge number of plastic water bottles.
Why…? You will have to find out during the tour.
For the gourmets, we recommend stopping for lunch at a local restaurant.
