Since 1923, the Triennale di Milano has been a reference point for architecture, design, urbanism, decorative arts, fashion, audio and video production.
This unique structure is part of a historical and monumental complex: the Sforzesco Castle, the Arena, the Arc de Triomphe. Since 1997 it has housed the Permanent Collection of Italian Design, the only one of its kind in the country.
The collection includes about 1000 design objects, 800 graphic works, 400 household objects from the collection of Alessandro Pedretti. The Design Museum is an avant-garde solution, able to change constantly and offer a new creation every year. The scientific approach here is combined with an emotional attitude, and this makes visitors want to come back here again and again. Here you can see unique models of cars and motorboats, made in a single copy; furniture made according to the projects of world-famous designers; designs using innovative materials that have not yet entered our lives. And much, much more.
In addition to the Design Museum, the 12,000-square-metre space houses the Triennale Gallery, which is dedicated to temporary exhibitions covering the widest range of contemporary art and design. Next door is Art Book, a bookshop specialising in architecture and design publications (including foreign ones). With a wide selection of specialised periodicals and publications no longer on sale. There is also an exclusive collection of works by famous artists and designers, which can be purchased if desired. Coffee Design is also a part of the complex, which is an organic continuation of the exhibition halls. A characteristic detail of the interior is a counter with monthly changing design items, as well as more than 50 different types of chairs and armchairs.
In the warm season, there is an open bar overlooking a cosy green corner, the surface of which is dotted with the works of famous designers. A branch of the Triennale has already opened in South Korea near Seoul. Other countries are next in line.
