Lausanne (French Lausanne, 375-900 metres above sea level, ca. 130,000 inhabitants)
Lausanne is a city in western Switzerland, the capital of the French-speaking canton of Vaud and the administrative district of Lausanne. Lausanne is the second largest city on the shores of Lake Geneva and the fifth largest city in the country. Lausanne is located 66 km northeast of Geneva, at the centre of a traditional wine region. To the east of Lausanne lies the “Swiss Riviera”.
Lausanne is the city of two universities, the seat of the Federal Court of Justice and the International Olympic Committee.

The Church of St Francis (ff), the Church of St Francis (ff) and the Church of St Francis (ff). St Francis (French Église St-François) – built in 1272 under the leadership of Franciscan monks.
Cathedral of Notre-Dame (French Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Lausanne) – the church is among the most beautiful Gothic cathedrals in Europe. The cathedral is located 150 metres above the level of Lake Geneva. The construction of the cathedral began in 1175, and in 1275 the church was consecrated by Pope Gregory X. The doors and facade of the cathedral are richly decorated with sculptures and bas-reliefs. The cathedral also houses the largest organ in Switzerland with seven thousand pipes.
Palais de Rumine (French: Palais de Rumine) – built in the Florentine Renaissance style in the late 19th century at the expense of the Russian family Bestuzhev-Ryumin. The palace now houses the cantonal and university libraries and several museums.
Ouchy Quay (fr. Ouchy) is a great place for romantic walks and the Chateau d’ Ouchy (fr. Ouchy) – built around 1170. It is now a first-class hotel.
Place de la Palud, home to the Hôtel de Ville, has a 17th century Renaissance façade. Today it is the headquarters of the city council. The square is also home to the Fountain of Justice. The fountain’s pool dates back to 1557 – it is the oldest pool in Lausanne.
MUSEUM
Museum of Design and Modern Applied Arts (Fr. The Musee de Design et d’Arts Appliques Contemporains (MUDAC) has a large collection of contemporary glass works, as well as a very beautiful collection of art from ancient Egypt and China.
Château de Beaulieu et Musée de l’Art Brut (Château de Beaulieu et Musée de l’Art Brut) – this château, located in the north-west of the city, dates back to 1756.The château houses a unique Art Brut museum with a collection of bizarre paintings of mental patients and prisoners.
The Olympic Museum (Fr. Musée olympique), which houses a huge collection of sporting, artistic and cultural artefacts, including a collection of stamps and coins, a library, an information centre, a video library with the most significant historical moments of the games.
Museum Historique de Lausanne (French: Musée Historique de Lausanne/Ancien-Evêché) – located in the building of the bishop’s palace, built in the early 15th century. The Ancien-Evêché has a 13th-century fortified tower and a collection of archaeological finds from the territory of Lausanne.
