Weimar – “Weimar Classics”

This city is home to 16 of Germany’s 89 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Every house and every street in this small, cozy German town breathes history, reminding us of the greatest cultural figures of the 18th century who lived here: Goethe, Schiller, Herder, Wieland, and Liszt. During the tour, we will learn about the activities of Duchess Anna Amalia and her son Karl August—the main patrons of the Golden Age of German Literature.

We will learn more about the life of Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna, whose name is inextricably linked with Weimar. During the tour, we will visit the Rococo Hall of the Anna Amalia Library, home to over one million books from the 9th century to the present day; Goethe’s house, where he wrote his major works and lived for almost 50 years; Schiller’s house; and Franz Liszt’s house. We’ll visit the Herder Church, where Bach performed his works every Sunday for several years, and stroll through the famous park on the Ilm. Of course, we’ll talk about the Weimar Republic and see the birthplace of the Bauhaus.
