His works, fortunately, are still found in considerable numbers in the so-called sites, i.e., places for which they were painted. Therefore, it can be confidently suggested to first view the cycle of paintings by Tintoretto in the Scuola di San Rocco; after which you can stroll to the nearby church of San Polo, where the painting “The Last Supper” by this talented master of stunning success still hangs today. Or you can walk through the places of Vittore Carpaccio. This selfless storyteller and joker, who in the cycle of paintings created for the Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni, preaches Christian values and the feats of saints, selflessly depicts Venetian landscapes and costumes.
Or find the paintings and works of Vecellio Titian – an Italian painter, the greatest representative of the Venetian school of the High and Late Renaissance. The name of Titian stands alongside such Renaissance artists as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, and Michelangelo. Titian painted works on biblical and mythological themes, and he also gained fame as a portraitist. Titian was not yet thirty when he was recognized as the best painter in Venice. The place of birth of the artist is sometimes referred to as “Titiano da Cadore”; he is also known as Titian the Divine. You can see his most famous painting “The Assumption of the Virgin” (Assunta), commissioned for the Basilica of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, or see “Judith or Justice” fresco at the Fondaco dei Tedeschi in the Franchetti Gallery at Ca’ d’Oro, as well as the no less impressive painting “Christ Carrying the Cross” in the Scuola di San Rocco.
