Sweet wines of Italy

There is no better way to finish a tasting and meal than with a glass of sweet wine.

Moscato d’Asti

With low alcohol content and a light sparkle, Moscato d’Asti is a magnificent wine for a summer afternoon. It was originally made by winemakers to drink at lunchtime without getting drunk. Made from Moscato Bianco grapes – one of the oldest varieties grown in Piedmont.

What does Moscato d’Asti taste like? Ripe peaches, honey, and orange blossom unfold in the summer aroma of this wine. It is also one of the few wines that smell and taste like grapes.

Vin Santo

This dessert wine bears a name that translates to ‘Holy Wine.’ It is made from white grapes Trebbiano and Malvasia, which are left to dry in the sun so that the concentrated sugar gradually turns the grapes into raisins. The resulting wine is aged for up to ten years in small barrels with a small amount of air at the top, allowing the wine to oxidize gently. It is usually paired with dry cookies – biscotti.

What does Vin Santo taste like? Vin Santo has a rich golden color, and its intoxicating flavor combines dried apricot and tropical fruits, complemented by classic oxidized aromas of caramel and nuts.
