Less than an hour’s drive from Marbella and you are in Gibraltar, on the Rock, as the Spaniards call this place. On
an area of only 6.5 square kilometers, 30 thousand people live. There is so little space here that crossing the border with Spain, you enter the “Rock” via the local airport’s runway.
At the very top of Gibraltar are the main attractions: St. Michael’s Cave, tunnels made to protect the “Rock” from the enemy, and of course the monkeys that live here in the wild. There are about 300 of them, and they feel quite at home here. Below, on the southwestern side, is the viewpoint “Punto Europa” and nearby a lighthouse.
Gibraltar is a British territory, the official language is English, but everyone also speaks Spanish. The local currency is Gibraltar pounds, but you can also pay in euros in the shops. The urban areas resemble England in miniature, with police uniforms, telephone booths, double-decker buses – everything is like in the foggy Albion.
