The wine capital of Catalonia is considered to be Penedes — a small town on the Mediterranean coast, whose wines are valued alongside the best French and Italian brands.
The history of Spanish winemaking is inextricably linked to the name of the Torres family, mentioned since the early 17th century. In 1870, brothers Jaime and Miguel Torres registered their trademark by building the first bodega (wine cellar) in the Penedes province.
Wines under the Torres brand have repeatedly won various international competitions and many are admired for their amazing and unique bouquets.
You will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the history of the world-famous Torres company,
with the winemaking process, visit vineyards and cellars. And, of course, you will enjoy a tasting of Torres wines!
The Codorníu company was founded in 1551 and was the first company to establish the production of sparkling wines in Spain.
The Codorníu cellars were built in the early 20th century, in the Art Nouveau style, by architect Giuseppe Puig i Cadafalch and declared a National Monument. The Codorníu wine cellars are a huge, five-story, underground 26-kilometer gallery, the largest in the world! Here, “Cava” is produced, which is not an imitation of French champagne, but a special type of sparkling wine that, although made using French technology, has its own unique, distinctive taste and delicate aroma.
Interestingly, since 1897, the “House of Codorníu” has replaced “Widow Clicquot” for the Spanish Royal Court, and has since been
their official supplier.
Descending into the cellar, you will embark on a small train for an unforgettable journey, at a decent speed with sharp turns through the cellar, where millions of bottles are stored in the fermentation process. A distinctive feature of the “House of Codorníu” is that bottles are not reused! The Codorníu company produces more than 50 million bottles of “Cava” per year and exports over 12 million bottles per year to different countries around the world.
