The French are exquisite gardeners, starting from the 17th century, likely leading in this art. Paris is the capital of France, so the uniqueness of its parks is not surprising.
Of course, this is the most central park in Paris – the Luxembourg Garden (Jardin du Luxembourg), celebrated by poets and artists and established by the famous queen – Catherine de’ Medici. The Paris Meridian used to pass here, and before Greenwich was recognized as the ‘zero’ meridian, this was the Center of the World. It is a beautiful park with a rich history, captivating perspectives, and cozy, exquisite corners.
In the Bois de Boulogne, there is probably one of the most beautiful parks in France – Bagatelle (Bagatelle – trinket). Grottos and waterfalls, roses and water lilies, peacocks and swans, lawns and mighty trees, a small royal pavilion and an excellent restaurant, alleys of wisteria arching overhead, fields of tulips, refined sculptures, gardens of fruits and vegetables… It’s hard to imagine a more stunning park!
In the Bois de Boulogne, there is also the Pré Catelan (Jardin du Pré-Catelan) – a charming park that has a corner dedicated to Shakespeare and all the plants mentioned in his works.
