Montserrat + wine cellars

Mount Montserrat is known far beyond the borders of Spain. It has already been visited by millions of travelers and pilgrims from all over the world. The beauty of the area is sung by poets and musicians, and artists come here to draw inspiration. Montserrat is so extraordinary that it can cause different emotions – delight and awe, peace and overwhelming excitement, any emotion, but not indifference!

The mountain is unusual in everything – from its appearance to the unique historical buildings located on its top, which will be the subject of a separate story. The tour will not be limited to visiting this amazing open-air monument. After visiting the incredible, “artistically carved” by nature itself mountain massif, you can go to the place where guests will be welcomed with a warm welcome, traditional Spanish snacks and delicious wines.

n

This place is the wine cellars of the Torres family. Their visit will be a relaxing end to a day trip that is sure to leave an indelible mark on your memory.

Stone idols and a Catholic shrine

n

From your hotel you will drive about 50 kilometers in a comfortable car before you see the jagged mountains of Montserrat.

n

They, like stone giants-idols, guard the entrance to the eponymous male monastery, which has become the Catalan religious center. Built more than 1000 years ago by the famous religious figure Abbot Oliva, it is a permanent refuge for monks who spend day after day in prayer and incessant labor.

n

The monastery complex was destroyed more than once during wars, but was rebuilt from XIX to XX century. The guide during the tour will certainly give time to a fascinating story about how the great Spanish architect Antonio Gaudi is connected with this truly unique building.

What awaits you during the tour

n

    n

  • You will walk inside the basilica, where the miraculous image of the Virgin Mary is located. Here to this day come crowds of sufferers who want to be cured of infertility, improve their health, find love, believing that they will get what they want after touching the image.
  • n

  • You can enjoy the sound of the angelic voices of the famous boys’ choir of the monastery. The Escolania de Montserrat choir is so popular that sometimes parishioners have to fill up their seats hours in advance to hear their divine singing.
  • n

n

There are also observation decks, narrow winding paths and incredible, nerve-tingling descents at almost every turn. There are several ways to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the Nature Park’s green, rocky terrain:

n

    n

  • Take the cable car to the top of St. John’s.
  • n

  • Take advantage of a more unconventional descent – the cable car.
  • n

n

Either way, an auto will be waiting for you at the foot of the mountain for a quick ride to the next destination on this day trip.

Torres Wine Cellars

n

Probably the best ending to an amazing, emotionally intense adventure – an introduction to the traditions of the wine region, a fascinating tour of the winery with the obligatory tasting of the famous wines.

n

From the guide you will learn the centuries-old history of the noble winemaking family Torres, carrying through generations the secrets and traditions of making Spanish wines. You will walk along the lush vineyards, visit the winery, go down into the cellars where you can smell the aroma of all Catalonia – plum, blackberry, citrus and even the smell of the sea.

n

You will also visit the museum, and this tour ends with a tasting of the best wines produced by the Torres winery.
