Montserrat – mountains, as if, huge stone statues of bizarre shapes, created by nature, every day become an object of attraction for tourists and pilgrims. And although their appearance is easily explainable from a scientific point of view, tourists willingly believe the legend of angels, allegedly once sawed the mountain in half out of boredom.
n
Playfully, they began to create interesting figures, to which people gave names after their likeness. You can read descriptions about them, then imagine how they look like, but it is better to see with your own eyes what shapes those very frolicking angels gave to the rounded peaks.
n
The tour is designed for one day – with departure from Barcelona. You are waiting for a program full of bright emotions – a visit to the incredibly beautiful mountain range Montserrat, and after a trip to the once former capital of the Ancient Roman Province – Middle Spain – the amazing city of Tarragona.
n
Briefly about the main things, or what you are sure to see on the Montserrat Mountain
n
Your exciting journey will begin as soon as the comfortable car starts driving towards the Pirinees. For about 1 hour you will enjoy the beautiful views outside the window and listen to the fascinating stories of our guide.
n
Upon arrival to Montserrat, everything previously seen will seem ordinary – an unusual “rugged” mountain, without any vegetation with bizarre patterns of narrow channels, gloomy caves will appear. Its mysterious appearance attracts attention, makes you experience previously forgotten emotions – awe, delight, surprise, and sometimes even anxiety.
n
But this is only the beginning of the breathtaking excursion! On the 700-meter slope stands the eponymous building – Benedictine male monastery, which is more than 1000 years old. It has become the religious center of Catalonia, its shrines are known far beyond the borders of the country, there are always queues to it…
n
The tour is very unusual and before touching those very shrines, you need to get there, on the very top of the mountain. The guide will give travelers the opportunity to climb up to the Monastery on a soaring cable car.
n
In any case, you will get to the territory of the Benedictine Monastery, which is still active today. Services are held there, monks live there, of course, they are few, but they take care of valuable treasures and pray tirelessly every day.
n
Here everyone can do what they see fit, for example:
n
- n
- Walk to the observation deck, which offers dazzling, incredible panoramic views of the entire surrounding area;
- A peek inside the monastery basilica. An ancient relic, the Black Madonna, is kept there. According to tradition, everyone who touched it had their dreams come true, and childless women found the long-awaited happiness of motherhood;
- Listen to the boys of the Escolania de Montserrat choir sing.
