CASERTA.

Caserta and Caserta Vecchia tour:

Caserta is an Italian city that has gained popularity with travellers thanks to the legendary Royal Palace, designed by Luigi Vanvitelli for King Charles III of Bourbon. It is also called the “Versailles of Italy”. The architectural ensemble is the largest building constructed in Europe in the 18th century.

The origins of Caserta remain a mystery to historians. A settlement existed here before the Romans arrived. The Langobards, who conquered Caserta in the 18th century, laid the foundation for the future city. The tower in the centre served as an observation point. Today, the historic structure is the palace of the prefecture.

The city is located 30 kilometres from Naples.

The construction of the palace took almost 30 years, but the grandiose project remained unfinished.

The palace in Caserta, as well as the beautiful park, became a film set for historical and fantasy films: Star Wars, Mission Impossible 3 and others.

Not far from modern Caserta is the beautifully preserved medieval town of Caserta Vecchia, famous for its restaurants serving game dishes prepared according to ancient recipes. At the foot of the Tifatina Mountains, the modern city of Caserta stands on the plain, with its ancient ancestor Caserta Vecchia (Old Caserta) on the mountain.

Don’t miss the unique opportunity to visit the medieval town of Caserta Vecchia. At the foot of the Tifatino Mountains on the plain stands the modern city of Caserta, and on the mountain stands its ancient ancestor Caserta Vecchia (Old Caserta).

In August, when Naples is sweltering with heat and you wake up feeling even more broken than the night before, the only way to get rid of your fatigue is a trip to the mountains. As the weekend arrives, Neapolitans head to Caserta Vecchia.

Neapolitans can not only take a break from the heat, but also enjoy a delicious lunch in one of the cosy restaurants serving game dishes, peasant cheeses and hams, and a variety of homemade pasta first courses.

The charming medieval village of Caserta Vecchia has just 300 inhabitants. Of all such towns in Italy, it is the best preserved. Once here, you’ll be surprised to find that time has not touched this town.
