AFTERNOON

Pozada and Fava Castle tour.

Pozada is a municipality in the region of Sardinia, under the administrative centre of Nuoro. The population is 2,394.

Pozada is nestled on top of a limestone cliff, on top of which you can see the ruins of the castle of Castello della Fava. Pozada was built in the 12th century by a Gallurian Judex, then reclaimed by the medieval Arborea and later by the Aragonese dynasty.

People have been settling here since antiquity, however, as evidenced, for example, by the Carthaginian colony of Feronia.

The town was of great political importance during the medieval Judicates of Sardinia, but fell into decline after repeated Saracen raids.

The medieval castle of Fava and the ceramic workshop. A place unlike any other. This is how travellers of the past have written about Sardinia. They tell of their sensations of land slowly rising from the sea, breathtaking panoramas and medieval castles and historic centres with narrow and winding streets. You will find all this in the town of Pozada, perched at the very top of a limestone cliff covered with mastic trees, with Fava Castle towering above. The town of Pozada has preserved its medieval layout, with narrow streets connected by steep staircases, arcades and small squares.

Make sure to visit the Fava Castle, built by the Pisans just before 1200, and see the parish church of Sant’Antonio Abate from 1324, later rebuilt in the 17th century.

The Castle of Fava has been restored: now you climb a wooden staircase to the top of the square tower and enjoy a marvellous panorama of the sea, the mouth of the River Posada and the valley with its citrus groves.

The lake near the town of Posada is on the other side of the sea, surrounded by pine groves. Like many other bodies of water on the island, it is artificial.

The journey culminates in a visit to a pottery workshop, where a family of fifth-generation Sardinian potters will reveal to you all the secrets of the birth of the famous Sardinian pottery.

The tour includes a visit to the historic centre and Fava Castle in the town of Pozada.
