June 6, 1944.This “longest day” marked the beginning of the coup de grace on the Western Front of World War II.It was the beginning of Operation Overlord, long prepared in the strictest secrecy by the Allies in concert with Charles de Gaulle.
On that historic day, 350,000 Anglo-American paratroopers (and Ernest Hemingway among them!) landed in 5,000 ships and 12,000 airplanes on the Normandy coast, beginning the liberation of France. Many of these young guys (about 10,000 on the first day) died immediately before reaching the coast of France, never having seen Paris….
It is said that the water was red with blood….
Since then, every American president (as well as almost every American) considers it his duty to visit these places, to bow to his compatriots who gave their lives for France and rest in Normandy in a large American military cemetery. In 2009, during the big celebrations of the 65th anniversary of the landing, Barack Obama was also here.
We offer you an exclusive tour of all five or more of these famous Normandy beaches (Sword, Juno, Gold, Omaha, Utah)…
