The Colosseum – (Flavian Amphitheatre) is an amphitheatre, an architectural monument of ancient Rome, the most famous and one of the most grandiose buildings of the ancient world that have survived to our time. It is located in Rome, in a low-lying area between the Esquiline, Palatine and Caelian hills.
The Forum is in the centre of ancient Rome, along with the surrounding buildings. Originally it housed a marketplace, later it incorporated the comitia, curia, and acquired political functions.
Central of Rome’s seven main hills, 40 metres high, one of the most anciently inhabited places in Rome. According to ancient Roman myths, it got its name from the city of Pallantium, built on the hill by Evander, long before the foundation of Rome and 60 years before the Trojan War. This is where the city of Rome was founded in 753 BC and where the residence of Roman emperors was located.
It is sometimes possible to visit the Domus Imperator Augustus, the House on the Palatine Hill in Rome where Emperor Augustus is commonly believed to have lived. Augustus settled on the Palatine before he became emperor.
