Tour of the most bandit city of Orgosolo and lunch in the mountains with the shepherds of Supromonte.
Do you know that a bandit is different from a bandit? Do you know the difference between a bad bandit and a good bandit? Between a Gallura zone mountain bandit and a Nuoro zone mountain bandit. Between the “concepts” of a gang and the “unspoken laws of the population”. If you are not one of the timid ones, we invite you to figure it out, get to know their lives better, hear the stories of the most famous bandits of the island, and take a look at the Honour Board of the “good” bandits in the criminal town of Orgosolo.
The tour takes place in one of Sardinia’s most criminal villages, where even counterfeit coins were once minted. In addition to its criminal past, the town is famous for its weaving skills. You’ll learn how to tell the difference between handmade and factory-made carpets, learn about ancient methods of dyeing wool, and discover why the island’s peasants preferred white for their work clothes when working in a rather dirty job.
When travelling through the town of Orgosolo, you’ll see the famous mottled murales that adorn the homes of the locals. These are wall paintings made in an unusually simple technique. The themes can range from political protests to quotes about the island’s history, from everyday life to depicting the celebration of typical Sardinian holidays.
Lunch in the mountains with the shepherds of Supromonte, an ancient mountain of wild beauty, is a wide plateau of Mesozoic limestone. On its territory are the small towns of Orgosolo, Olena, Dorgali and Baunei. Here reign harsh landscapes in yellowish-white colours. Narrow and deep gorges cut by majestic limestone walls, an endless series of hollows, grottoes and crevices, only partially explored – all this creates a unique atmosphere. In the midst of such a riot of nature, a rich and varied flora and fauna have formed. In the real “temple of nature”, where centuries-old trees, straight as candles, with mottled trunks, often split by lightning, rise, live herds of wild rams, flocks of wild boars and foxes, golden eagles and peregrine falcons nest in steep walls and severe gorges. People who inhabited this area in ancient times left behind many monuments of the nuragic era. Up to the present day, the people living in this area are engaged in herding activities. When you visit the Sardinian shepherds, you will taste authentic Sardinian cheeses, salami, homemade sausages and suckling pig, and taste the Cannonau red wine, known as the drink of long-lived people.
This trip will give you an unforgettable experience. Discover the heart of Sardinia. The tour includes: a wine cellar with tasting of the best Sardinian wine, a visit to the museum of Sardinian carnival masks, the town of Orgosolo with the most famous murals, lunch with shepherds in the mountains, Sardinian choral singing and Sardinian traditional dances.
