Basel

Basel is located on the banks of the Rhine River and is Switzerland’s only port city.Basel is rightly considered the cultural capital of Switzerland, with over 30 museums and the country’s oldest university. The centrepiece of the city is the Market Square. Here you will see the Town Hall with bright red facades, which was built in the late Gothic style in 1507 – 1513. One of the main sights of Basel is the Cathedral, built in Romanesque-Gothic style. A monument of architecture of the XIV century – the Spalentor Gate – perhaps one of the most beautiful defence fortifications in Switzerland.
