Transfer to Schilla – (20 min.) Schilla Chianalea – Southern Venice. Brondzi di Riace 5th century BC

Shilla is a place of legend. It was fortunate enough to find itself on the pages of the great poem of Homer, the chief mystic of antiquity. And if you look closely at its Italian name – Scilla – you will immediately realise what we are talking about. The very Scylla, the terrible monster that tore all the ships passing between it and Charybdis, was supposed to be located here. Nowadays, alas, there’s no trace of the mythical beast. But there is a charming fishing town with colourful houses, a pretty castle and a small beach. It is one of the most beautiful and characteristic villages in Italy, a favourite place for artists of all ages and nationalities.

Here you can admire one of the most beautiful views of the Strait of Messina and neighbouring Sicily from the panoramic platform in Piazza San Rocco

The tour will continue with a visit to the Castle of Ruffo di Calabria (entrance fee), an ancient fortification perched on a high cliff above the Strait of Messina.

Walking down the stairs to the fishing village of Chianalea, called the “Venice of the South”, you will find yourself in a fairytale world where houses grow at the water’s edge and the waves knock on their doors. But the locals cherish their homes, where you can sample Calabrian specialities and fresh seafood accompanied by a glass of good local wine.
