The name of the Torres family, mentioned since the beginning of the 17th century, is inextricably linked with the history of Spanish winemaking. In 1870 brothers Jaime and Miguel Torres registered their trademark, having built the first bodega (wine cellar) in the province of Penedes.
Wines under the Torres brand have won various international competitions and many admire their marvelous and unique bouquets.

The Codorniu Company was founded in 1551 and was the first company to establish the production of sparkling wines in Spain.

The Codorniu Cellars were built in the early twentieth century, in the Art Nouveau style, by the architect Giuseppe Puce y Cadafalc and have been declared a National Monument. The Codorniu Wine Cellars are a huge, five-story, underground 26-kilometer gallery, the largest in the world! Here is produced “Cava”, it is not an imitation of French champagne, but a special type of sparkling wine, which, although prepared according to French technology, but has its own special, unique taste and delicate aroma.

Interestingly, since 1897, Dom Codorniou replaced Veuve Clicquot for the Spanish Royal Court, and since then has been their official supplier.

Once down in the cellar you will take a small train for an unforgettable ride, at a decent speed with dashing twists and turns through the cellar where millions of bottles in the process of fermentation are stored. A distinctive feature of the Codorniou House is that the bottles are not recycled! Codorniou produces over 50 million bottles of Cava per year and exports over 12 million bottles per year to countries around the world.
