Gastronomic tour of the village of Borghetto
In addition to the excursions on Lake Garda – we recommend you to visit the amazing medieval manor of Borghetto.
A part of the municipality of Valeggio sul Mincio in the northern Italian province of Verona, one of the best preserved monuments of the Middle Ages. The town was on the border of three spheres of influence – Verona under the della Scala family, Milan under the House of Visconti and Mantua under the Bonacolsi family.
The small village of Borghetto is located in the valley of the Mincio River in the municipality of Valeggio in the province of Verona, at the foot of the Visconti Bridge. The unique medieval charm and originality of Borghetto has earned it a place on the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy. In the 14th century it was part of the Serraglio defence system, even its name practically means “fortified settlement”.
Borghetto is home to some of the most delicious tortellini in Italy.
The beauty of Italy is not only in its historical and architectural richness, but also in its variety of dishes. Each city has its own traditional dishes and they are worth trying.
In Verona, a typical dish is tortellini with a variety of fillings: meat, vegetables (whatever is in season), pear and cheese, goose meat and truffles, pumpkin.
Tortellini will not leave even the most refined gourmets indifferent. The dough used to make them is so thin and delicate that you can see the filling inside and they simply melt in your mouth. They are handmade by women every morning.
Veronians come to Borghetto especially to savour the local tortellini. And the medieval estate itself is original in that the marvellous 15th-century watermill houses are built right on the water.
