BOZA

Bosa city tour and Count Malaspina’s castle.

Tour by car.

This city is famous for its openwork lace, the most expensive in Italy, its ancient jewellery techniques, whose pieces are as good as any of the world’s modern jewellery designers, and its delicious lobster. The city of sweet Malvasia wine and colourful houses, old tanneries and the medieval castle of Malaspina, rich in legends. The mighty castle of Count Malaspina. To this day, locals still tell legends about the jealous count who built the castle and the tunnel that connected the castle to the cathedral in the 12th century. The mysterious tunnel has never been found.

The imposing castle, located on the Serravalle mountain belonging to the Malaspina family, the promenade fringed with palm trees, the fishing boats at the quay, the people weaving fishing nets with their large baskets – all this gives the town an unforgettable and extremely picturesque appearance. The town of Boza is maritime, but at the same time on a navigable river.

The town is largely defined by the palaces and mansions of the 18th and 19th centuries, when Boza was the provincial capital.

Hovering over the town, the Genoese fortress shelters within its walls the 14th-century church of Nostra Signora di Reniès Altos, with its unique medieval frescoes. After crossing the three-span bridge over the Temo River, the only navigable river on the island, and getting to the right bank, you’ll see 18th-century tanneries turned into museums and small cosy restaurants.

You’ll climb the castle of the “jealous husband” towering above the city, learn the secret of making Malvasia liqueur wine, see how the famous Filet lace is woven and visit an ancient “tannery”.

If you wish, you can have lunch in a local restaurant, where you can try lobster “bosan-style”, which is the most famous dish in the city.

Castle Excursion – Castelsardo Castle The Castle of Genoa, the Castle of Pisa and the Castle of Sardo all refer to the same castle built in the early 12th century.

On the way to this castle you will visit the regional centre of the local province, the town of Tempio, founded during the Roman era, rich in its beautiful Roman-style churches and the heart of the carnival processions in the north of the island. We will also visit the famous “elephant”, which served as a necropolis for primitive people (about 5000 years ago).

Castelsardo is an ideal place to buy wicker made of reeds, reeds, asphodel and palmetto. Souvenirs such as small baskets of various styles, caskets, etc. will take up little space in your luggage and will not be disturbed by their weight.
