The Capitoline Museums are one of the oldest public museums in the world, located in Rome’s Piazza del Campidoglio, part of a magnificent architectural ensemble designed by the genius Michelangelo Buonarroti.
The museum’s many rooms contain a remarkable collection of sculptures from ancient Rome, dating back to antiquity, as well as paintings, ceramics, mosaics, jewellery and coins.
There is a rich collection of ancient sculpture (marble and bronze); a Pinacoteca with paintings by Titian, Tintoretto, Caravaggio, Guido Reni; the halls of the museum are richly decorated with frescoes and carved wooden ceilings; you will see archaeological evidence of the importance of the Capitoline Hill in the life of ancient Rome.
