Would you like to know what the famous “Costa Smeralda” is all about, its peculiarities and the secret of success that allows it to remain the most famous and prestigious resort in the whole Mediterranean?
This excursion will reveal to you all the secrets of the favourite resort of the world’s most famous people.
Costa Smeralda (“Emerald Coast”), stretching for 55km along the north-east coast of the island of Sardinia, is a centre of elite tourism with perfect sandy beaches, quiet coves and spectacular mountain ranges. It is probably the most popular tourist destination on the whole island, with dozens of quality beaches and hotels, restaurants and shops, as well as some of the most spectacular scenery in all of island Italy.
The Costa Smeralda also has the highest concentration of yacht clubs and harbours per square kilometre in the world.
The recently renovated Porto Cervo marina is a clear proof of this – it is home to a luxury yacht club where today only the wealthy and mostly Italian oligarchs holiday.
In the 1960s, while a young Arab sheikh was sailing his yacht, an engine malfunctioned just off the coast. As a result, Karim Aga Khan was forced ashore and was overwhelmed by the beauty and seclusion of the beaches. He comes up with a brilliant idea to create a luxury resort for the “chosen few”. After long negotiations, he buys a small plot of the coast and creates a commercial enterprise “Emerald Coast” to attract additional investments. A separate architectural direction is created, which gives the created elite resort towns an individual and unique style, combining the architectural style of the island with echoes of Arab culture. The resort towns are being created.
