Doria Pamphili Gallery
In the walls of a huge palazzo belonging to the aristocratic Doria Pamphili family, one of the richest and most interesting private collections in Rome is on display. Unfortunately, not all the rooms are open to the public all the time, but the exhibition is still astonishing in its splendour.
The gallery’s masterpieces include Caravaggio’s “Rest on the Road to Egypt” and “Penitent Mary Magdalene”, works by Titian, Correggio, Lotto, Caracci, sculptures by Algardi and Bernini, and more than 400 paintings in all, in noble interiors, including the famous Gallery of Mirrors.
The portrait of Pope Innocent X Pamphili by Velázquez is the museum’s hallmark.
