Excursion programme:
The tour starts with Lake Bracciano – the volcanic lake, on the shores of which the town itself is located, is the sixth deepest and eighth largest lake in Italy.
Visit the Orsini Castle – 15th century Odescalchi – Ancient Castle in Bracciano
Transfer to Bagnoregio, where everyone who wants to see the “dying city” comes from – from here the bridge leading to the city starts. Civita di Bagnoregio was founded by the Etruscans about 2500 years ago in a strategic location of the time – on the road connecting Lake Bolsena and the Tiber River, which was the great shipping route of Central Italy.
Before the 11th century, the town was called Balneum Regis. According to legend, the city was named by the Lombard king Desiderio (756-774 AD) after he was cured of a serious illness in the local thermal waters. In 774, Emperor Charlemagne gave the land to the Pope. You will see Etruscan grottoes that the ancient Romans used as cellars, ancient cisterns for rainwater. Then you can relax in one of the inns and savour the local cuisine and local wine.
Then
Transfer to Viterbo, where you will spend a few hours in a pool of healing water, whose properties were appreciated already in the Middle Ages, and you can order a massage or various cosmetic procedures.
If you are not interested in the Thermae, then in the afternoon you can visit the Bomarzio Park, famous for its mysterious sculptures of monsters. In this case the tour can also take place on a Tuesday.
