This type of eatery is a local landmark Nowhere else but Venice will you find bacaros (aka bacari). They are small eateries with food and drinks where people come to chat, not to eat. Very often in baccaros you can try cicchetti, an exceptional Venetian appetizer. These places are famous for their low prices and relaxed atmosphere. Baccaro is a good place to come in the evening for an aperitif. It is common to eat and drink at the counter, but some bacaros also have a restaurant space.
Cicchetti are small sandwiches with a wide variety of fillings and are usually served with either olives or vegetables.
A special itinerary for those who want to experience the flavor of the real Venice, try different drinks and seemingly simple but not disappointing cicchetti.
Let’s start with the translation of the term – cicchetto is literally a cigarette butt. Don’t be frightened, it’s not an invitation to vices, but rather a way to immerse yourself in the Venetian mores of the bacaro – noisy and crowded drinking rooms and snack bars. It is curious to observe local habits and traditions, to feel on the tongue the peculiarities of local cuisine, which boldly combines contrasting flavors and abundant spices.
And of course, chat, gossip. About the past, about the present and look into the shaky and vague future. In the evening, people go from bar to bar, drinking wine or spritz and eating cicchetti. It’s a way to spend the evening tasting local appetizers in a lively atmosphere.
Cicchetti bars cater primarily to locals, so you can be sure you’re tasting quality food.
The guide will create a bacaro itinerary for you based on the length of the tour and the location of your hotel.
