Excursion to the Atlantic Ocean, Tarifa, with a visit to a tuna restaurant.

Tarifa is the southernmost point of Europe and Spain, where the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet.
The two continents are separated by only 15 kilometers and it seems as if Africa is just a stone’s throw away.

n

You leave the Costa del Sol, and continuing south, you pass the majestic rock of Gibraltar and the bay of Algeciras. Africa appears on the horizon on the right and you arrive in the city of Tarifa.

n

It was from here, in 711, that the invasion of the Iberian Peninsula by the Moors began.

n

The city was named after the Moorish commander Tarik, and it was here that the world first introduced a levy on goods brought into the port, called the tarifa.

n

To the west from here begin the luxurious Atlantic beaches with white sand. The winds blow constantly here, making Tarifa one of the best places in Spain to learn and practice kite and windsurfing.

n

A little further west, right on the oceanfront, is a real sand barchan with stunning views of the ocean and the African continent.

n

Tarifa’srestaurants offer a great selection of local seafood, this is where you can try freshly caught tuna, or paella cooked in a family-run Spanish restaurant.

n

Swimming in the ocean, an ATV tour, horseback riding, or going out into the ocean to view dolphins and whales can all be combined with a trip to Tarifa.

n

Beyond Tarifa, in a place called Zaara, right on the ocean, is one of the best tuna restaurants in the province of Cadiz.

n

Duration of the tour: full day, 10-11 hours.

n

IMPORTANT: Can be combined with a tour of Gibraltar.
