If you have tried all kinds of active and passive holidays on the Adriatic coast – then a trip to a fantastic, mysterious underground realm is what you need – the Grottoes of Frasassi. Nature has worked for over a million years to create this wonder. The Frasassi complex consists of a series of caves or grottoes with a total length of 13 kilometres.
The first hall is called “The Abyss of Ancona”. Its size and the multitude of stalactites and stalagmites of different shapes, colours and sizes are astonishing. Here you can find millennia-old stalactites 20 metres high. There is in the cave and “Crystal Lake”.
Walking through the labyrinths of grottos and passages you will discover other halls: the Great “Cave of the Winds”, “Cascades of Niagara”, “Hall of Candles”, a huge limestone column “Giant”. Also very interesting is the “Cave of Bats”. It is inhabited by representatives of the dark world – bats. There are tens of thousands of them here. And every evening these nocturnal mammals fly out of the cave in search of food. The Frasassi Grottoes contain many more wonders that nature and time have worked on.
The Frasassi Grottoes can be reached from Rimini or Ancona.
*You can only enter the caves with a guide.
