GDR

The GDR’s past has left a strong mark on Berlin’s history. During the tour, we’ll explore the most interesting and significant sites spanning the GDR’s existence from 1949 to 1989. We’ll see the largest and most interesting section of the wall, the “East Side Gallery,” the Bornholm Bridge—the first border crossing through which East Berliners crossed into West Berlin, the “Workers’ Palaces” on Karl Marx Allee, the pride of the GDR—Alexanderplatz. We’ll also visit the headquarters of the GDR Ministry of State Security, and a settlement not shown on any GDR map—Wandlitz, the home of Honecker and Mielke.
