Visit the Cathedral of the Duomo with an ascent to the observation deck, which is located on the roof of the cathedral. This is a unique opportunity to see up close the characteristic features of the Gothic church, which is the most striking example of “flaming” Gothic in Italy.
Visitarchaeological excavations: two early Christian Baptisteries and the remains of the church of Santa Tecla – in Roman times the site of Milan Cathedral was the site of a temple dedicated to Minerva, and in early Christian times the church of Santa Maria Maggiore and the church of Santa Tecla. By XVI both of these churches were demolished. They were replaced by the Duomo Cathedral
Visit the Victor Emmanuel II Gallery a covered shopping arcade in the centre of Milan, one of the first arcades in Europe, built between 1865 and 1877. The building is shaped like a Latin cross with an octagonal centre, decorated with mosaics depicting the four continents (except Australia), as well as allegorical representations of art, agriculture, science and industry.
Visit La Scala Theatre and Theatre Museum – opera house built in 1778, a world centre of opera culture. The building was built on the site of the demolished Gothic church of Santa Maria alla Scala, which is where the popular name of the theatre came from. When the site for the theatre was excavated, a large block of marble was found depicting Pilad, the famous mime of ancient Rome.
