Lugano (Switzerland)

Lugano is spread out on the shores of Lake Ceresio, at the foot of two mountains San Salvatore and Brae. The tour begins in the town’s main square, Piazza Riforma. Here there are many banks, cosy cafes and restaurants and a majestic building of the Municipality with a clock and sculptures – allegories of Religion, Concord, Power and Freedom. Then you can stroll along Via Nassa, the city’s most elegant street, entirely pedestrianised. Shopping here is pleasant in all weathers, even in the rain, while strolling quietly under the ancient arcades.

Lugano’s main attraction is the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, a collection of late Gothic frescoes, Renaissance bas-reliefs, Baroque paintings by the Torricelli brothers and elegant Rococo sculptures.

It’s impossible not to see the most beautiful frescoes in Switzerland, The Crucifixion and The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci. If you have already seen Leonardo da Vinci’s “Last Supper” in Milan, it will be interesting to compare these two masterpieces. The tour ends in the most famous park of the city – Villa Chani. In this paradise, among exotic plants and fabulous sculptures.

Switzerland in miniature – a children’s park in the town of Melide (10 minutes from Lugano). All of Switzerland’s attractions are within a few hectares of land. Despite the fact that this entertainment is primarily for children, but adults can’t help but enjoy “Switzerland in miniature” too. The park is open from mid-March to the end of October.

The Chocolate Museum at the Chocolate Factory is located near Lugano. It is well worth a visit, especially if you are travelling with children. The museum explains how chocolate is made, its history and how it is made. You can watch the chocolate being made, taste the products and buy souvenirs.

Shopping and Outlet – Lugano has a huge selection of luxury boutiques where you can find all the most famous brands. Outlet lovers can visit the Fox Town Factory in Mendrisio, which has 130 shops offering year-round discounts from 25 per cent to 50 per cent.
