MEIRINGEN – REICHENBACH WATERFALL – AAR GORGE

Miringen, a small, cosy and very welcoming town, is famous for its wonderful scenery and extensive opportunities for outdoor activities at any time of the year. You can see the famous Reichenbach Falls, which Conan Doyle made famous as the place where the great detective Sherlock Holmes died. There is a small Sherlock Holmes Museum in Meiringen, created by admirers of the writer’s literary talent. In several rooms there is an exposition – a copy of the London flat on Baker Street. On one of the main streets of the town there is a monument to Sherlock Holmes – he sits on a bench with a pipe, as if alive. Climbing up the cable car to the waterfall, you will have an opportunity to see the place of the great detective’s deadly fight with Professor Moriarty.

In the valley, not far from Meiringen, there is the main attraction of these places: the Arsko Gorge (1.4 km) – a grandiose natural monument. Steep cliffs frame the gorge on both sides, rushing streams of water of a special milky blue colour, grottoes, caverns and hollows in the mountains, reminiscent of the eternal ice that once lay here. A walk along the specially built road along the entire gorge will leave a lasting impression on you.
