Museo Novecento – Museum of 20th Century Art
Museo Novecento, located in the Palazzo dell’Arengario and Palazzo Reale in Piazza del Duomo.
An unusually interesting museum that will help you understand and love modern art.
The Museo del Novecento is two symmetrical buildings that began to be built in 1937.
The complex is now an artistic and architectural landmark.
The complex was designed by Italian architects Giovanni Muzio, Piero Portaluppi and Vico Magistretti.
The buildings opened their doors in 1956.
In 1999, the Milanese authorities announced a competition for the restoration of Palazzo Arengario to adapt the interiors to modern exhibitions.
Only the famous spiral staircase in the glass tower was not renovated and in the summer of 2007 the buildings underwent a modern renovation. The buildings underwent a modern renovation designed by Italo Rota and Fabio Fornazari.
The Museo Novecento has been recognised by collectors, gallerists and institutions that have actively collaborated for more than a century to create one of the most solid collections of national art of the twentieth century.
The museum was inaugurated at the end of 2010, offering a space with paintings and sculpture from the twentieth century.
The museum space is divided into themed rooms that trace the chronology of contemporary art.
There you go up a grand staircase that is also a work of art.
And then you’ll encounter paintings, sculpture and contemporary art objects.
