Pinocchio Park in Collodi.
A 1.5 hour drive from Florence is the Park of the famous fairytale character Pinocchio.
This is one of the oldest parks for children in Tuscany. It is dedicated to the most famous Italian fairy tale character, Pinocchio. Why was the park opened here, near Lucca?
This is the birthplace of the mother of the author of the fairy tale, Carlo Lorenzini, who took the name of the area where she came from – Collodi – as a creative pseudonym.
Pinocchio Park was built as an alley of surprises. It begins with two places where the meaning of the story of Pinocchio was condensed: the “Pinocchio and the Fairy,” the monument to Emilio Greco and the Piazzetta dei Mosaici Venturino Venturi. The route takes you step by step, you’ll encounter sculptures, buildings and landscaping where adults and children interact as a team to find Pinocchio’s secrets in the works of great 20th century artists, from Pietro Consagra’s sculptures to Zanuso’s Big Sea Fish.
Don’t expect a classic theme park.
Don’t expect ultra-modern rides and attractions.
There are sculptures depicting characters from the book scattered here and there and a large puppet theatre with performances.
If you decide to come here, make sure you read the Pinocchio book with your child first. It is different from the well-known “Golden Key” by Alexei Tolstoy
The park is open every day
