The town of Sabbioneta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with Mantua, is a prime example of Renaissance fortifications. The city walls are still preserved here. The city was built by its master and “founder”, Vespasian Gonzaga, according to the ideal models of urban planning of the time. Sabbioneta, also called “little Athens”, appears to tourists like Mantua – with its own Ducal Palace, private residence, Palazzo dell’Giardino and a long antique gallery, with a breathtaking theater designed by architect Scamozzi and one of the few synagogues in the province. The tour includes visits to the two palaces, the theater and the synagogue.
Every year, in the second week of August, Sabbioneta celebrates the “White Nights”. All the activities and performances last the whole night.
