St. Tropez and Grimaud

Saint-Tropez was “discovered” by the European elite in the late 19th century and needs no special introduction. It is a harbor with snow-white yachts, a luxury resort full of movie stars and bohemians. The most interesting place of the city is the promenade. Many artists exhibit their creations here. All together – the sea, the sun, snow-white yachts and bright colors of paintings merge into the harmony inherent in St. Tropez. The place got its name at the end of the IV century AD.

The Roman Emperor Nero ordered the beheading of several officers of his army for converting to the Christian faith. According to the tradition of the time, the bodies of the unfortunates were placed in a boat. The sea nailed the boat in a small bay, which was named San, which means saint, Trope, a reworking of the word Torp (torps were called Roman officers). The highest point of the city is the XVI century fortress, where peacocks often shout on the suspension bridge. The small museum of the fort tells the unpretentious history of this village of soldiers and sailors. In addition to the famous Impressionist museum, located in the chapel of the white penitents Anonciade (Musée de l’Annonciade) in the city there is a curious Museum of Butterflies (La Maison des Papillons – 20,000 specimens). There are even exotic views from the Solomon Islands in the Amazon.St. Tropez is truly famous thanks to Brigitte Bardot and Louis de Funes – the funniest policeman in French cinema. In the hidden villas of this resort more and more often began to appear celebrities: ex-Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, King Farouk, Robert de Niro and many, many others….

GRIMO PORT.

This is a charming tiny town that sits on the road to St. Tropez. It is located not only on land, but also directly on the sea.The settlement was founded by the ancient Greeks in the IV century BC. In the old part of the town the Château de Grimaud (XI century) has been preserved, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of Port Grimaud (Port-Grimaud). This is the “sea” part of the town, with an area of 90 hectares and a population of 2000 people. It is quite realistic to walk here on a fortified road. The houses stand on the water. The islets are connected by Venetian bridges. Port Grimaud was born in the 60s of the twentieth century.
