  • The oldest quarter of the city, where Genoa originated. It is one of the largest and most densely populated historical centres in Europe. It covers an area of 113 hectares. Part of the historic centre of Genoa is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The structure and architecture of Genoa’s old town reflects different eras. The centre of the old town is a labyrinth of narrow streets (caruggi) with small attractive squares and plenty of attractions. Along the streets are dense rows of historic buildings, including churches, cathedrals and former palaces;
  • The oldest Genoese cathedral is the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, the largest church in the Ligurian capital and the seat of the Genoese Archbishop. The cathedral, built in the traditional for Liguria ascetic Romanesque style, was built over three centuries, from XI to XIII century. The exterior of the temple is modest, there is almost no decoration, the walls are made in a contrasting white and black colour scheme, symbolizing the political and military power of Genoa in the region.
  • The ancient streets of the old town – charming streets that still preserve the memory of their great, world-famous Genoese.
  • Spinola Palace – lost in the labyrinth of medieval streets residence of the last representatives of the Spinola family, reflecting the tastes of the bourgeois-aristocratic elite of the time, and we will see a luxurious collection of furniture, ceramics, paintings of famous artists from XII to XVIII century.
  • The family palace of the powerful Doria family, a typical Renaissance residence, and visit the magnificent Gothic architecture, formerly a shelter for countless pilgrims on their way to the shrines.
  • La Lanterna Lighthouse is the symbol of the city and the tallest lighthouse in the Mediterranean: La Lanterna is 77 metres high, with 375 steps leading up to the top. It is also very old: the history of the lighthouse dates back to 1128.
  • Walls Park – At the end of the twentieth century, along the line of the fortification walls of Mura Nuove, the Genoese opened the Parco delle Mura natural park, which covers an area of 617 hectares. There are nine hundred species of plants, birds and animals, many of which are endemic and therefore protected by law. Thanks to this, the Genoese call the park the meeting point between city and nature. You can walk through the park on foot, or you can cross it by cable car. The route lies high above sea level and the traveller has a magnificent view of mountains, forests, pastures, towers, city walls.
