THEATRE LA SCALA

The world’s most famous opera house has opened its doors to everyone who wants to experience its incredible atmosphere.

You will see the magnificent lobby with busts of famous musicians and the legendary auditorium, which opened after a major renovation in 2004.

The view of the auditorium is from one of the boxes. Here guests can not only experience the special atmosphere of the temple of music, but also, if they are lucky, watch a rehearsal of a performance.

The rooms of the theatre museum help to trace the history of the great theatre from its foundation to the present day.

There are various musical instruments, including a grand piano played by Franz Liszt, who was a frequent visitor to Milan.

Separate halls are dedicated to the Italian Comedy of Masks and the famous artists who reigned on this stage at different times.

A portrait of the famous opera singer Giuditta Pasta by the famous Russian painter Carl Brullov, who lived in Italy for a long time, is among the exhibits.

The history of the La Scala theatre cannot be separated from the name of the great Giuseppe Verdi. The museum houses not only his personal belongings and instruments, but also a posthumous mask and a cast of the composer’s hand.

The theatre has recently opened a specialised shop where theatre lovers can buy video and audio recordings of their favourite works, opera scores and numerous theatre-related souvenirs.

La Scala will reveal its secrets. Stendhal called La Scala the first theatre in the world, Franz Liszt resented the manners of the Milanese public. A theatre that didn’t accept Mozart and Beethoven. A theatre that admired Nureyev and applauded Baryshnikov.
