The Safari Park “Pombia”, which also includes a zoo and an amusement park, is located in the town of Pombia (Lake Maggiore), an hour’s drive from Milan.
It was created in 1976 by Angelo Lombardi and covers an area of 400 thousand square meters.
In 1999, the park was acquired by Orfeo Triberti, after which a restoration of the buildings, which had begun to decline by that time, was carried out. The territory and all attractions were updated.
Today, the park’s territory consists of two large zones – the safari park itself and the entertainment area.
The safari park is home to about 600 animals – here you can see hippopotamuses, lions, tigers, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, etc. roaming freely.
Recently, two albino lions – Vegas and Wolf – and two wonderful giraffes arrived here.
There is also an aquarium and a reptile zone, where venomous snakes and reptiles brought from all over the world live – they, of course, do not roam the territory but live in enclosures.
Children especially enjoy the “Journey into the World of Lemurs” zone and the new home for colorful parrots.
In the entertainment area of the park, there are more than 30 attractions, including carousels for the smallest, a “caterpillar”, a children’s train, water slides, a real pirate ship, a 5D cinema, and a Ferris wheel.
The specially created arena hosts theatrical performances on various themes, as well as shows featuring talking parrots.
And in the Falcon Fortress, everyone can watch falconry demonstrations.
It is also worth mentioning the Jurassic Park with life-size dinosaurs, a botanical garden with giant plants, an educational trail in the forest, a “Wild West” zone with bison, and a pony ring for the smallest.
In 2011, a non-profit organization “SOS Elephants” was established in the territory of the safari park, aimed at helping to preserve the pygmy elephants on the island of Borneo. Part of the proceeds from ticket sales to the park goes towards creating a protected area in Borneo, where the population of these elephants can breed in comfortable conditions.
In addition, “SOS Elephants” provides technical, financial, and administrative support for wildlife population recovery programs.
