Salvador Dali – a genius of modernity, whose creations have never left anyone indifferent. His surrealistic works are not always understandable, but that is what makes them attractive – these colorful, eccentric paintings, sculptures, interior and household items convey all the “madness” of the talented Dali.

Salvador Dali and his museum
From Barcelona, you will set off in a sightseeing car to the eccentric museum, which the Creator personally worked on for a long 14 years. In Figueres, it will not be difficult to recognize him – a bright building with a dome, bold like its author, immediately attracts attention. Its unusual appearance seems to warn visitors that something more extraordinary is inside, something that will surely leave them in awe.
The location of the museum, namely the building of the theater itself, was chosen not by chance. Once there, Dali was awarded the first prize of his life. The red building is adorned with an interesting ornament, executed in a checkerboard pattern, and the spherical glass dome impresses with its lightness, while massive decorations – eggs – add to the unusualness of the entire structure. It may seem that they will fall at any moment, but that is just an illusion.
Upon entering, you will find yourself in a multi-level space divided into 5 areas. So what interesting things await you there:
- A stunning collection of surrealist paintings. According to Salvador’s last will, the museum is open to anyone who wishes, but there are no guides here. Therefore, your guides will tell you in detail about any work displayed there. There are many of them, each deserving a separate story – “The Ghost of Sexual Appeal”, “Atomic Leda”, “Basket with Bread”, “Galarina”, “Illusory Torero”, “Soft Self-Portrait with Bacon”. Special attention is given to one of Salvador’s most famous works – “Gala Looking at the Mediterranean Sea, or Portrait of Abraham Lincoln.”
- Studying the surrealistic exhibits raises the question – what is human imagination capable of?! Each bizarre sculpture, three-dimensional collage, or furnished room attracts with its uniqueness, forcing one to look at the world from a different angle. Be sure to examine the composition “Rain Taxi” and ask the guide to show other interesting exhibits and tell about them.
- The collection that the great artist collected for many years deserves special attention. His passion for beauty is reflected in the works of Marcel Duchamp, El Greco, Bouguereau, Jean-Louis-Ernest Meissonier, Modest Urgell. And here you can also visit an exhibition of jewelry created based on the sketches of the Creator – Salvador Dali.
- Here, in fact, you can see the grave of the lover of extraordinary antics – Salvador Dali. It sounds quite unusual, but during the tour, almost all tourists, without noticing it, simply walk over it. The thing is that Salvador Dali was buried right in the floor of his surreal museum and covered with a slab. This was the wish of a madman who, even after death, reminds of his outrageousness.
A walk through the “immortal” Girona
