Palazzo Te – the country residence of Federico II Gonzaga, was built for the idle entertainment of the marquis. It stands on the site of the former family stables, on the island of Te. The palace is a masterpiece of architecture and painting by the great Giulio Romano, embodying in Mantua the lessons learned from his teacher Raphael.
