Mountain air and wonderful Asiago cheese (Asiago)

Asiago is located 60 km from Vicenza and is a small resort town situated at an altitude of just over 1000 m above sea level with its microclimate and extraordinarily fresh air. The slopes of the mountains have ski trails with lifts, and the town has many small and cozy hotels and restaurants. A wonderful place for winter recreation skiing and sledding with children.

In these places, there is a factory producing wonderful cheeses of Italy, such as Asiago. For a long time, sheep have grazed on the green pastures of the Asiago plateau. The first mentions of the cheese made near Asiago from sheep’s milk date back to around the year 1000. Gradually, in the region, cows began to be raised instead of sheep. In the second half of the 20th century, regions were defined that have the right to produce “Asiago” cheese: the provinces of Vicenza and Trento, certain areas of the provinces of Padua and Treviso, and a consortium was created to control adherence to the recipe. Now, “Asiago” is among the top ten most popular cheeses in Italy.

A pleasant walk through the city center with small cozy shops, visiting the Memorial (Sacrario di Asiago) dedicated to the memory of those who died in World War I on the battlefields near Asiago, climbing the mountains, viewing the fortifications built during World War I, and tasting cheeses will make your trip enjoyable and educational.
